All-Digital Xbox One S May Be Coming Soon

According to recent rumors, Microsoft is planning to release an Xbox One S model without an optical disk drive in the very near future.

The rumor was first reported by Windows Central where according to unnamed sources, the device that has frequently been referred to as “Maverick” will be called the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition. Microsoft is reportedly aiming to have the system ready for preorders in mid-April and shipping in early May. Rumors also suggest that it could be a near-global, simultaneous launch.

The “Xbox Maverick” rumors are nothing new. They first started appearing in November 2018. At that time, it was suggested that the device would sell for less than $200. The system’s lack of a disk drive would make it a console truly focused on being a digital-only device, making it a perfect fit for Microsoft’s Game Pass digital subscription service.

When it comes to these sorts of rumors, be sure to take them with a very large grain of salt until there is some sort of official confirmation. Plans can always change, and they frequently do. However, at this point, these rumors are looking pretty credible.
