HAWKEYE Series Takes Aim at Hailee Steinfeld

Variety is reporting that Hailee Steinfeld could soon be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. According to their sources, Steinfeld has been offered a lead role in the upcoming Disney+ Hawkeye series.

As was previously reported, the limited series will see Jeremy Renner reprise his role as Clint Barton, a.k.a. Hawkeye, the bow-wielding hero who most recently appeared in Avengers: Endgame. The series is rumored to be an exit point for Renner who will pass the mantle of Hawkeye on to Steinfeld’s, Kate Bishop.

For those unfamiliar with Kate Bishop, in the comics, she is Clint Barton’s protégé. She later becomes Hawkeye when he takes the Ronin mantle upon himself. She a member of the Young Avengers and is the third person to use the Hawkeye moniker; however, she is the first female to do so.

Reps for Steinfeld and Disney have not issued any comments, but it’s important to note that Variety is saying that Steinfeld has been offered the part of Kate Bishop, not that she has accepted the role. It’s entirely possible that the Bumblebee star won’t end up joining the MCU. Considering the potential for the character to make the jump from television to theatrical films, this isn’t just a simple TV show; it’s a job that could last for years and years. I’m sure that’s something to consider before accepting the part for whoever that is eventually cast.

Hawkeye is expected to begin streaming in the fall of 2021 on Disney+. Jonathan Igla, best known for his work on Mad Men, is attached to write and executive produce the series.
