J.j. Abrams Will Write and Direct Star Wars: Episode Ix

After last week’s announcement of the separation between Star Wars and Colin Trevorrow, there was uncertainty of who would come in to direct Episode IX, some speculated Star Wars made a huge mistake, but the true believers knew Star Wars was making the best possible decision.
StarWars.com is reporting that J.J. Abrams has signed on to not only direct Star Wars: Episode IX, but he will also be writing the script alongside Chris Terrio, whose most recent work includes Justice League, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Argo. Abrams, who breathed new life into Star Wars with The Force Awakens in 2015, will be returning to complete the sequel trilogy. The circle is now complete.
Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, said the following regarding Abrams’ return to the franchise.
With The Force Awakens, J.J. delivered everything we could have possibly hoped for, and I am so excited that he is coming back to close out this trilogy.
Star Wars: Episode IX will be produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, Abrams, Bad Robot, and Lucasfilm and was expected to hit theaters in May of 2019. Today it was also announced that the film’s release date will be pushed back to December 20th, 2019.
