Living – Episode 173

Welcome back to Movies that Make Us. We are continuing this month’s theme of feel good movies, since January is the worst month of the year and we close it out with the Sundance film Living starring Bill Nighy.

The film is based on a film based on the 1952 Japanese film Ikiru, directed by Akira Kurosawa, which in turn was inspired by the 1866 Russian novela The Death of Ivan Ilyich by Leo Tolstoy. Living is set in 1953 London and depicts a bureaucrat in the county Public Works department contemplating his life when informed he’s facing a fatal illness.

What are your thoughts on the film? It’s in theaters now, and Bill Nighy was nominated for an Oscar for his performance.
