Prepare to Have Your Mind Blown

This past week I had a little extra time on my hands and so I decided to see a random movie. But before we get to that, I’d like you to watch a video for an Indian song. I apologize in advance if it gets stuck in your head.
Far too often I walk into a theater and I already know 90% or more of what I’m about to see, even if it’s my first time actually seeing the movie. The 24 hours media culture we live in combined with too many trailers and commercials often spoil the surprise. However, this time would be different. A while back I saw a link for a random Indian superhero movie which I watched, had no clue what was going on (since I don’t speak Hindi), and almost completely forgot about. Here is that trailer.
As I stared up at the upcoming shows at my local theater I saw what appeared to be that same movie randomly playing at a cinema in Northern Connecticut. A quick IMDB check confirmed it was the movie I thought it was, and since it was cheap movie night I decided to give it a whirl. Having heard about “Bollywood” movies previously, but never actually seeing one, I was not quite prepared for what I saw. Believe it or not, the first video in this article is one of three musical/dance numbers throughout this legitimate superhero movie. As you could guess from the trailers, this was not a top-tier budget action movie but it had very respectable special effects, and a quality story.
Thanks to digital projection, an abundance of multi-screen theaters, and the ease with which movies can be shown in theaters outside of the typical “art house” I was lucky enough to have this experience. If Krrish 3 is playing anywhere near you I’d highly recommend giving it a shot. If for no other reason than to remind you that superhero movies don’t always need to be so depressing, and that maybe Batman could be improved with a little less growling and a lot more signing and dancing.
