Super Smash Bros Hints Esports

As the world knows, Super Smash Bros was announced for the Nintendo Switch. As someone who played Smash 4 competitively (I proudly mained Cloud), the thing I’m most excited about is the prospect of Nintendo pushing Super Smash Bros. into a more mainstream eSport. Taking cues from the all-new OWL (Overwatch League) and the Rainbow 6 Seige League, Nintendo could learn a lot. The reason I’m even bringing up the idea of eSports for Nintendo is that, after the Nintendo Direct showing off Smash on Switch, the big N made a new Twitter account called Nintendo Versus.

Now to be clear we don’t know what Nintendo Versus is, but if I were to bet money, I’d say it is a League for Nintendo eSports games such as Arms, Mario Kart, Splatoon, and the ever so popular Super Smash Bros. Even further than the idea of Nintendo Versus being a way for pros to be seen, is the idea that this new Super Smash Bros. will be just that, new.

There are some speculating that this release could be a port of Super Smash Bros. from the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, otherwise known as Smash 4. If that were true, it would be exciting to an extent, but a new Smash would allow for a more competitive gameplay and more advancements for Super Smash Bros. as an eSport.
