The Sandlot Series Coming to Disney+

There have been rumors for a while now that a series based on The Sandlot was in development; however, nothing was every really substantiated. Until now.

Hot on the heels of the film’s 25th anniversary, Deadline is reporting that Disney is developing a series based on the baseball classic for its Disney+ streaming service. The show is in the early stages of development; however, the 1993 movie’s original director and co-writer David Mickey Evans is attached to write and executive produce.

The Sandlot series will take place in 1984, more than twenty years after the events of the film, and will focus on the children of the original cast.

In an interview in February on The Rain Delay podcast, Evans stated that many of the original cast members would return for the series. He also indicated that he was close to signing a two-season deal.

The Sandlot is one of the greatest baseball films ever made. And when it comes to my favorite films of all time, it’s probably in the top ten. I’m extremely excited about this news and will be following it closely. We’ll keep you posted as more news becomes available.
